Nerd Song of the Week: ”Short Hair” (Mulan)

First of all, it was a TRAVESTY this song wasn’t on the original release of the soundtrack. It was only on the Limited Edition CD for God knows what reason. This movie came out when I was just 6 (in 1998), and even though I didn’t really care/pay attention to the scores of movies, I STILL remember this song. The score for Mulan was composed by Jerry Goldsmith, who also composed the scores of PoltergeistAlien, and The Omen, which won him an Academy Award (one of his 17). The haunting sci-fi-ness of this song shows his history in the horror/action business for sure!

Let them be a holiday! A holiday from himself above all: a holiday from his standards: from his convention with himself. From clear observation: from exact thought: from knocking over all the skittles of the exactitudes of others: from the suppression of emotions…From all the weariness that made him intolerable of himself…
